Long Summer

It's been a very long summer for me... not much time for reading. However while I am unable to read I know that there are those out there who are enjoying classics. So, while you are reading your classic please post what you are reading and what (so far) is your favorite part? What do you plan on reading next?

Thus far in my Summer of Classics I've read Walden and 1984, and I'm currently on Brave New World. My upcoming list includes Candide, The Stranger, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Utopia and Madame Bovary. I'm a slow reader, but all of these are under 300 pages, so I should finish them by Labor Day.

Hey Pete, 2 + 2 = 5 right? I loved 1984 and Brave New World. I haven't read any of the others that you have on your list but it looks like a really great list. I am familiar with the titles and they are short reads. Good luck in finishing them this summer!

I'm reading the Four Great Chinese Classics for this term, but currently I'm into "The Journey to the West".

Currently I'm reading James Joyce's "Ulysses" and the Chinese classic "The Journey to the West".

Stan, I've heard that Ulysses is a tough read. Do you agree? I've never seen that Chinese classic. I'll have to look for it!

I am reading the Modern LIbrary's Top 100 Board's list from bottom to top, so I have read several classics in the last couple of weeks. "The Postman Always Rings Twice" by James Cain, "The Magnificent AMbersons" by Booth Tarkington, and I am in the middle of Paul Bowles' "The Sheltering Sky".

Socrmom, that is truly inspiring! What have you thought of each book so far? I'd really like to hear your opinions/review!

Steve, thanks for the comment! Who wrote "The Journey to the West"? I am unfamiliar with that title. Thanks!
